Night Walkers Midterm Idea

I had this idea to create a shoe with a device inside that recognizes distance and light level to activate a response which would help a person move without visual stimuli. The idea is to equip a photosensor in order to read light levels. Once below a certain threshold, the photosensor will activate LEDs on the shoes. Also, a distance sensor will be able to actively relay information to a speaker- which allows the user to tell if there is an object a certain distance away in front of their walking path.
